THE POLAR EXPRESS

Thank you, Lincoln Street Families, for joining us for our recent Open House! It was wonderful to see so many families in our building, meet one another, and celebrate the start of a new school year together. We are off to a great start at Lincoln Street School, and we are so excited for all that this year will bring. Most importantly, we look forward to watching each of our students learn, grow, and succeed as they discover their strengths, build friendships, and continue to become confident, responsible, and caring members of our learning community. Thank you for your partnership and for helping make Lincoln Street School such a special place to belong and grow.

We are excited to welcome award-winning author Shannon Hale to Lincoln Street School on September 17th! Shannon will be speaking with our students in Grades 3–5 and sharing her new graphic novel, Dream Big. We look forward to an inspiring and engaging visit that will encourage our students to dream big and celebrate the joy of reading!

Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15! This month honors Hispanic and Latino Americans. The celebration began as an event for one week in 1968. Hispanic Heritage Month became a full month in 1988. Several Central American countries have September 15 as independence day. These countries are Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico has their independence day on September 16. Chile celebrates their independence day on September 18. 68 million Latinos now live in the United States. This is about 20.5% of the total U.S. population.  Learn more about Hispanic Heritage Month by reading a book or attending a program.

We have lots of great books for kids, teens, and adults to read that are written by and about Hispanic Americans. Books For Kids

PTO Meeting 9/17 in LSS library

Join is at 7pm in the LSS library on Thursday 9/17 to learn about how you can help out with various events during the year.
Some of the things the PTO makes possible: Book Fairs • Enrichment Programs • Exciting School Events • Field Trip Funding • Fun Family Events • Support for Families in Need • Staff Appreciation Activities • and so much more!

We have amazing families who attend our events throughout the year but we need more volunteers to keep the momentum going. Whether you have a few hours to spare or are looking for a bigger role, there’s a place for everyone. No experience necessary… just enthusiasm and a desire to make a difference!
Come see what we’re all about. Bring your questions, your ideas, and maybe even a friend! Together we can make next year our best one yet!
